Me&U was founded by a small group of black muslim women, who envisioned a community that was inclusive and welcoming for black muslim youth. Our team noticed that many services and programs were lacking religious and cultural sensitivity, which led to an underrepresentation of black muslim youth in spaces such as the arts and academics.

As youth ourselves, we truly understand the importance of having representation and the opportunities to fully participate in initiatives, without having any obstacles simply because of one’s identity. The youth today and ourselves, have faced barriers especially when it comes to accessing innovative or skilled programming, resources and mentorship.

As an organization, we focus on low-income and marginalized youth, as they often are neglected in terms of accessibility and support in opportunities to enhance their skills and freely explore their interests. Me&U was founded for this exact purpose; to ensure that the youth ignite the talents they have within themselves.
